Organ Donation : A Boon to Mankind by Medical Science that gives a chance to live after death..

Every year, 13th of August is observed as   the Organ Donation Day.  Organ Donation is the gift/Boon to mankind by the Medical Science. It's the chance to live after death..

However  Still it is seen that people are not   that much aware about the importance of Organ donation much less its legal provisions. The Transplantation of Human organ Act 1994 deals with the Organ Donation in India and it has been amended from time to time.

We'll try to  have a breif  in intro about these  provisions. Be aware and make others aware.. Organ Donation is a chance to live even after your death..

1. The organ Donation can be made during ones lifetime after Death. After death donation is commonly known as "Deha-Daan"
2. Any person of 18 years of age and above is eligible for organ donation.
3. such person has to make his wish of Organ donation in writing by making a WIll, which has to be witnessed by two persons, one of whom shall be near relative of the Donor.
4.If there is no such Writing, then the person in whose lawful possession the body is, can give permission for organ donation. The Forms of Organ Donation are available in all the authorised Hospitals, which are registered under the said Act. so please do see that the Hospitals are authorised to do the needful..
5. In case of Brain-Stem death or Brain Dead cases also Organ donation is permitted by the consent of Panel of Expert Doctors of the Hospitals. Brian Stem death is such a situation where all functions of the brain-stem have permanently ad irreversibly ceased..If the patient of Brain-stem death is below 18 years, then the prior permission of parents is a must..
6. In case of unclaimed bodies in Hospitals or in prison, if there is no claim within 48 hrs from the death about the body, then the Concerned authority has right to give donate the  body. such donations may save the precious life of someone !
7. One may donate some of his/her organs during his/her life time subject of he provisions of the Act. During life time one may donate  a Kidney, part of pancrea, part of liver etc, after prior permission of the concerned authority. this authority's main function is to check trafficking of human organs.
8.If the Donor and the beneficiary are near relatives of each other, then the permission of the Authority is not required. Only exception is if any one of them is not the resident of India or if the Donor is of below 18 years, then permission is required. In all other cases prior permission is a must !
9. Organ donation/transplantation can be made only in such Hospitals/Clinics which are registered under the said Act. Exception to this rule is of donation of Ears and eyes, which can be removed and donated at any place...
10. Most importantly, people fear that body of the deceased is mutated in case of organ donation. Perhaps this may be because of impact of  Movies !!
Another reason people stay away from it is Religious Beliefs. If organs are donated, then it will have an adverse impact on after life, is the reason. Well, the God will bestow the blessings on those who do organ donation and save someone's life.. Isn't it a more work of 'Punya' ?
All precaution is taken to see that the body is not mutated and the feelings of the relatives are also preserved !!
11. The ratio of Donors and the Donee (Beneficiaries) is heavily inverse !! Its in our hand to reduce this margin !!
Be-aware-make others aware....
